NVQ Accreditation to AAT Qualification

The National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) framework was introduced in 2005 under the Tertiary and Vocational Education Act No 20 of 1990 with the objective of developing a nationally recognized system for granting of tertiary education award and vocational education awards including certificates and other academic distinctions. The National Vocational Qualification System is nationally and internationally recognized in order to enter the global job market as qualified professionals.

According to Vocational Training Authority (VTA) of Sri Lanka, A considerable number of students get dropped out from G.C.E O/L and G.C.E A/L examinations. As a result, these students may enter the unskilled job market with lower salary scales. In order to overcome this, the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) has taken necessary steps to introduce the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) System with 7 Levels as provided below.

AAT Sri Lanka Qualification has been accredited by Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) enabling students to obtain a confirmation for NVQ Level 5 equivalence of AAT Qualification. According to Vocational Training Authority (VTA) of Sri Lanka Students who have successfully completed NVQ level 5, can enter for the 2nd year in most of the foreign universities where the relevant field is available.

At which point the AAT qualification is recognized as equivalent to NVQ Level 5?

When a student becomes a *AAT passed finalist along with One year of Practical training and participation to People and Leadership Skills program.

*AAT Passed Finalists who became passed finalists from July 2015 AAT examination onwards (I.e. Under 2015 Curriculum onwards) with one year of practical training and participation to PLS program would be entitled to the NVQ L5 equivalence status.

If a Student (Who fulfils the above mentioned requirements) wishes to obtain a confirmation for the recognition of NVQ L5 equivalence, what is the procedure he/she has to follow?

  1. Fill out and submit the “Requisition Form – NVQ L5 Equivalence for AAT”
  2. Produce the completed and signed “Compliance to AAT Practical training requirement Form” (This needs to be signed by the immediate supervisor of the AAT student at the workplace of which service letter is provided)
  3. Produce a certified copy of Service Letter of the employment (At which the training was obtained) covering one year
  4. Produce the receipt of the payment made to Cashier (Cashier of AAT Head office)
  5. Obtain the letter from E&T Division confirming NVQ L5 equivalent status for AAT qualification

What is the charge to obtain a letter confirming the NVQ L5 equivalence status for AAT Qualification?

LKR 1000/= (The payment can be made to Cashier of AAT Sri Lanka Head office)
